Institutional Mandates

Following the Brussels Declaration on Open Access most Belgium universities, research institutions and research funders require or request their researchers to provide open access to their peer-reviewed research article output by depositing it in an open access repository. According to  ROARmap, Belgium has 19 mandates listed, 14 of which are institutional policies. Most policies follow a Immediate-Deposit/Optional-Access mandate.

The number of Open Access publications in university repositories is steadily increasing. This can be linked to the sustain awareness-raising initiatives and training sessions organised by the universities. They regularly organise in-house training sessions on Open Access. Some universities already have research data management strategies and plans in place. To stimulate exchange of good practices and expertise a working group on open science and research data management has been established within the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR).
